The river Usk

The starting point is at the village of  Llangynidr which is on the B4558 between Crickhowell and Talybont on Usk.
I always try and park on the canal but if not I park on the road.Walk and face the canal go left along the towpath passing under bridge 130 continue until bridge129
just before is a stone stile climb over  and follow the lane straight ahead  this passes a farm on the left and then Worcester Cottage
then at the bottom of the hill take a left down a footpath to the river

The Brecon & Abergavenny canal was constructed between 1793 and 1812  and connects with the Monmouthshire Canal
It is now used for pleasure but in its heyday heavy barges pulled by horses transported coal, iron, limestone and timber during the
Victorian age. As with all canals the arrival of the steam train took most of the trade away
Just outside Llangynidr there is a series of locks and further on towards Talybont a tunnel. As you walk along the towpath the views constantly change I think it has to be one of the most scenic canals in the uk

Turn left and follow the river up stream, after approx 1 mile there is a small sewage works on the left take the path to the right
(do not go through the gate ahead) follow the river until Llangynidr Bridge.
If You turn left at the road it will take you back up to the canal where you started the walk, otherwise cross the road and follow the river until you reach a set of steps with a handrail, climb these over a stile to a road.
With your back to the river take the lane ahead, this will take you back to the canal,go left along the canal back to the start of the walk
Or on the opposite side of the canal you will see the Coach and Horses pub it has a beer garden overlooking the canal, has two or three real ales plus cider and lager, serves meals and bar snacks
ENJOY THE WALK
